James E. Gillum went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 19, 2015. James was born on September 5, 1933 in Soldier, KY to Tony and Eva Gillum. He came to Mansfield in the early 50’s. There he met his future wife, Jean Carlton. James and Jean were married on May 9, 1957 and had celebrated 58 years of marriage, together they reared two children.
James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He had retired from Empire-Detroit Steel with 36 years of service. James loved and generously served his Lord and Savior. He was a faithful member of Real Life Community Church for 50 years Through his love for piano and guitar he led many to Christ. Above all he inspired his children and grandchildren to always serve the Lord.
James is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne; daughter and son-in-law, William and Victoria; daughter, Karen; four grandchildren, Crystal, Jordan, Hunter, and Kalina; and great grandson, “Baby James”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Eva Mae Gillum; infant twin grandchildren, Brandon and Erica; six sisters; and three brothers.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. at the Diamond St. Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Mark Barth and Pastor Phil Green. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Real Life Community Church, 670 Kentucky Ave., Mansfield.
