MANSFIELD, Ohio — The Ohio Means Jobs Richland County Jobs Fair brought nearly 30 businesses and many job-seekers to the Richland County Longview Center on Friday.
Assistant Director for Richland County Jobs and Family Services Lori Bedson said the businesses represented at the job fair included light manufacturing, trucking, healthcare, and staffing management.
“We’ve been very successful in some job fairs … I think it just depends on what types of positions people are looking for,” said Bedson.
Bedson said there were also around 12 training facilities and career centers like North Central State College’s (NCSC) Industrial Readiness Training (IRT) program that attended the jobs fair.
“I’ve been looking for a job for about a year now,” said Leland LeVert, who used to own a printing business in Columbus before tanking a few years ago.
He is searching for a job that will utilize his administrative and accounting skills; but currently jobless, he said he’s just looking for anything now.
Marie Doan has searched for a job in healthcare since October 2014. She said she would like to stick with secretarial or clerical work if she can, which is what she was looking for at the job fair.
Some businesses were ready to hire on the spot.
Sales Representative for Western-Southern Life Insurance Co. Terry White said the company is expanding into the Mansfield area.
“We could easily fill twenty positions today,” said White. The company is searching for individuals interested in selling life insurance. White said the only skill necessary is the ability to have a conversation with someone.
District Manager for Dollar General Angie Sqrow said they are looking to hire sales associates and store manager candidates. “We have a lot of opportunities for people. We (Dollar General) are always opening and growing,” said Sqrow.
Also looking to hire was Jamison Well Drilling & Pump Services. Corporate Secretary Cindy Golden said there are four open positions: driller, drill tender, service technician, and office clerk.
