ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland’s fireworks display on July 4 will be bigger and better this year than in the past due to the event being a part of Ashland’s Bicentennial celebration.

In addition to the fireworks display being 50 percent larger than usual, according to fireworks organizer Keith Boales, the event will feature pre-fireworks entertainment by Neil Ebert and his Salvation Army Kroc Center Big Band.

According to Ebert, the band will play from 8:30 to 9:45 p.m. at the 50-yard line in Community Stadium.

Ebert said the band will play a variety of big band music, with the program featuring “a little more jazz at the beginning of the show and then evolving into more contemporary big band of the ’70s and ’80s near the end of the show.” He said the last 15 minutes of the show will feature more patriotic selections and the show will end with the “Star Spangled Banner.”

The Rotary Fireworks are expected to start at dusk, or around 10 p.m., on July 4, and the enhancement of the show this year is sponsored by Coldwell Banker Ward Real Estate in memory of Robert and Margaret Ward.

The City of Ashland is celebrating its 200th year anniversary during 2015 and will be hosting many different events as part of the year-long celebration, which is sponsored by Donley Auto Group.
