PERRYSVILLE, Ohio- Step back into history on Saturday, June 27, for Ohio History Saturday at Pleasant Hill Lake Park. This Civil War event is free and open to the public.
Programs begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The Civil War era demonstrations and exhibits area will be open for visitors to see artifacts, guns, cannons and equipment used during the Civil War period.
Visitors may speak with some of the soldiers about their lives and history of the war or enjoy a conversation with the 16th President, Abraham Lincoln and the First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln.
Visitors can learn about some of the interesting development of guns during the time period and visit with the Ohio Cavalry Unit. The 6th Regiment Cavalry, Ohio Volunteers of the Union army was organized in 1861 from ten counties in northeast and north central Ohio.
The event will also feature Civil War era toys and games as well as period crafts and demonstrations.
Battery D, 1st Ohio Light Artillery will demonstrate the use and history of Civil War cannons with live cannon firing on the hour at 11 a.m., 12 p.m. and 1 p.m.
Also featured will be a fish fry on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. On Sunday morning, a birding canoe trip will be held from 9 a.m. til 11 a.m.
Live Bluegrass music will be performed by the Snowy River Boys on Saturday evening from 6 p.m. til 9 p.m. Local storyteller and native Delaware Indian Roger Moore will talk about the Indians that once lived in Ohio around a campfire program from 9-10 p.m.
