Gregory Eckert

Gregory C. Eckert, 66, of Galion passed away Monday, June 22, 2015 at his home after a short battle with cancer.

He was born August 5, 1948 in Crestline, to the late Charles W. and Shirley B. (Lacey) Eckert.

Greg was a graduate of Colonel Crawford High School, North Robinson. As a proud buckeye, receiving his Associates Degree in business administration from The Ohio State University, he could always be found donning scarlet and grey on game days. Greg enjoyed sharing his passion for auctioneering, often teaching his grandchildren rhymes learned while he attended Missouri Auctioneer School, and later on founded his own business, Eckert Auctions. He also had a strong sense of patriotism and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Greg was a member of Free & Accepted Mason Lodge #414, Galion, the Galion Elks Lodge #1191 and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #303, Galion. When family thinks of him, they recall a vibrant storyteller, a lover of music and poetry, and a man who could never spend enough time with his loved ones.

He is survived by his two sons and three daughters: Heather (Jeff) Windbigler, Galion, Holly (Trischa) Eckert, Wooster, Joshua Eckert, Galion, Jennifer (David) Schroeder, Delaware and Joseph Eckert, Cardington; his six grandchildren: Ashley (Caleb) Ekin, Morgan Eckert, Andrew Schroeder, William Schroeder, Lauren Schroeder and Alexander Schroeder, his sister Karen Hunt, Crestview, FL and his brother Robert (Jackie) Eckert, Nevada.

Friends may call Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 26 at 10 a.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion with Pastor Paul Walter officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
