Ruth Evelyn Hamblin, 99, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Lexington Court Care Center. She was born April 23, 1916, on Easter morning, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Clarence B. Swaidner and Goldia M. (Beer) Swaidner.
Ruth attended a one room school house in her early years. On January 4, 1942, she married James Edgar “Eddie” Hamblin and they shared 59 wonderful years together. Ruth had worked at Stevens Manufacturing (Essex Wire) and retired from Buckeye Bank (now Key Bank). She attended First Christian Church and taught children’s Sunday school classes. She was a very active member and also served as a deaconess. In her free time, Ruth enjoyed gardening and baking cookies.
Ruth is survived by her children, Dennis Clarence (Pat) Hamblin, David Edgar (JoAnne) Hamblin, Donna Michelle (Jon) Woodard and Douglas James Hamblin; seven grandchildren, David K., Darin D., Jill R. (Joe), Brynn A. (Nick), Jon Thomas, Elizabeth M. (Josh), Karla M. (Greg); four step grandchildren, Penny, Pamm, Kim (Stan) and Laura (Phill); numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; two nieces, Dorothy (Robert) Hall and Judy Hallman; and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Edgar “Eddie” Hamblin; daughter-in-law, Peggy Powers Hamblin; and sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Dutch Davis.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2015, in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
