COLUMBUS, Ohio – State Senator Larry Obhof (R-Medina) announced Senate passage of Senate Bill 119, legislation to create Lincoln Highway license plates to support the historical preservation and advertisement of the Lincoln Highway in Ohio.
“The Lincoln Highway is an important piece of Ohio’s history,” said Obhof, who sponsored the bill along with Senator Cliff Hite (R-Findlay). “Senate Bill 119 will help promote Ohio tourism.”
Senate Bill 119 establishes the “Lincoln Highway” specialty license plate to recognize the first transcontinental highway for automobiles across the United States. The Lincoln Highway stretches from Times Square in New York City to San Francisco, California.
The Lincoln Highway runs along what is now U.S. 30 from Columbiana County, through Stark, Wayne, Ashland, Richland, Crawford, Wyandot, Hancock, Allen, Van Wert and Paulding counties before reaching Indiana. The historic highway is a popular tourist byway which draws travelers from around the world who stop at the local small businesses in the Mansfield community.
The Ohio Lincoln Highway Historic Byway will receive funds from each license plate sold, to be used to promote tourism and foster preservation efforts along the highway.
Senate Bill 119 passed with a unanimous, bipartisan vote and now goes to the House of Representatives for further consideration.
