S. Madlean Yates, 84, of Galion went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital, Mansfield.
Born in Virginia on May 29, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Vince and Virgie (Fuller) Compton. She married Harry B. Yates on October 26, 1946 and he preceded her in death on October 14, 1995.
Madlean was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Crestline. Her children were her life. She loved to read the bible and sing Christian music. Madlean enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, writing and making ornaments.
She is survived by her five daughters and daughter-in-law, Glenna and Danny Johnson, Dixie L. Yates, Sue and Mike Smith, Gale and Rex Holt, Carol and Randy Mullins, all of Galion, and Kathy and Dan Miller of Lexington; nine grandchildren, Jeff Deel, Angela (Rob) Kennedy, Timothy Yates, Fred M. and Kim Reece, Jr., Ricky M. and Heather Reece, Rex Alan (Jenny) Holt, Jr., Rachel (Alan) Akers, Matt Mullins, and David V. (Brenda) Miller; her 31 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; her three brothers, Homer and Linda Compton and Harold and Sue Compton all of Haysi, VA and Bob and Sherden Compton of Vansant, VA; and her sister, Lucy and Chester Yates of Haysi, VA.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, John Yates; her three sisters, Dollie Compton, Janice Compton, and Ruby Yates and her brother-in-law Earl Yates.
Friends may call Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way N., Galion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 19 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, with Pastor John Waterhouse officiating. Burial will follow in Crawford County Memory Gardens, Crestline.
