MANSFIELD, Ohio — The First Presbyterian Preschool of Mansfield is celebrating 30 exciting years of operation this fall.
The preschool, located on Trimble Road, says their goal is to “enhance children’s development” as they partner with families. Begun in 1985 when a women’s group started the school, they have grown to a staff of eight. The school plans to recognize their accomplishments during their fall festival this October.
In recent years the preschool has adjusted to blend academics into their program while keeping it fun for kids. The preschool is for children age 3 to 6 and includes three types of programs. Typically the youngest children attend a Tuesday-Thursday program. There is also a Monday, Wednesday, Friday and a five-day program. Each day’s program runs from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Director Wendy Walters said the center incorporates Ohio Department of Education academic standards so that their students will be ready for kindergarten. She believes the preschool program excels in age-appropriate literacy development as well as math and science. Students participate in music and movement classes in addition to large group play time. Various play activities incorporate learning as well.
This year the school will also offer an “extended care” program that will run from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The new option begins this fall and is for working parents.
In a time when many preschools have closed their doors as public schools offer preschool programs, First Presbyterian is going strong, says Walters.
