Neil Thomas Garver, 86, of Mansfield, died June 10, 2015. Born September 21, 1928 in Mansfield, he was the son of Clarence and Grace (Goodhart) Garver. Neil was a veteran of the Army Air Force, having been honorably discharged in 1954. He was a wonderful carpenter who loved hunting, fishing, camping, and taking his boat out on Lake Erie. Neil served as Police Captain in Mansfield for 30 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Mansfield Masonic Venus Lodge #0152, Baku Gratto, Police and Fire Retirees of Ohio, and Eastern Star Ruth Chapter #17. He also was a lifelong member of American Legion Post #16, where he served as a boy scout leader. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Geraldine Garver of Mansfield; daughter, Jan (Dave Pesec) Garver of Mansfield; grandson, Michael McCann of Lexington; great-grandchildren, Crystal, Gabriel, and Eion McCann; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charlie (Wanda) Augustine of Mansfield and David (Mary) Steele of Shelby; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Neil was preceded in death by his son, Scott Garver.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield, conducted by Rev. Robert Stull. Family and friends are invited to visit for one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m.. Military services presented by the Richland County Joint Veteran’s Burial Squad will be held at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to the organization of the donors choice in Neil’s memory.
