James M. Johnson, Sr., 66 of Mansfield, passed away on June 9, 2015, following a lengthy illness.

James was born on December 24, 1948, in Mansfield, to Percy and Gladys (Jackson) Johnson. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, as a POW, earning a Purple Heart for his service. He loved being around his family, and they came first in his life. He enjoyed watching the Pittsburg Steelers and playing softball.

He is survived by three children, Carmen L. (Myron) Hobbs and James M. Johnson Jr, both of Columbus, and Damita Johnson of Mansfield; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one on the way; six siblings, Patricia A. (Bishop Jerome, Sr.) Ross, Joseph C. Johnson, Larry D. Johnson, Charles J. Johnson, Pervis A. Johnson, and Anthony L. Johnson; and special friend, Brenda Jackson.

James was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gilbert C. Johnson; daughter-in-law, Christina Johnson; and two ex-wives, Barbara Johnson and Gladys Johnson.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, ltd, 1106 Park Ave. East, Mansfield, with Rev. Clarence Sanderfer officiating.
