MANSFIELD, Ohio – Volunteers with Richland Soil and Water Conservation District take an active role in water quality and pollution prevention.

Richland Soil and Water Conservation District has partnered with the Ohio Lake Management Society-Citizen Lake Awareness and Monitoring (OLMS-CLAM). The group conducted Lake Monitor Volunteer training on Saturday, May 30, at Charles Mill Lake.

Volunteers learned how to take and record water clarity, color, temperature and depth and will monitor conditions at Clear Fork, Charles Mill and Pleasant Hill Lakes.

The data will be used to document changes in lake conditions and the information will be used to assist with watershed management efforts. Results will be shared with the public and will help increase awareness about water quality and conservation.

This is a citizen-scientist opportunity. To join this program and help with other conservation efforts, call 419-747-8686 or go to www.richlandswcd.net.
