Charles A. Lakey

Charles A. Lakey, 90, of Ontario, died Sunday, June 7, 2015, at home surrounded by his loving family. Charles was born August 14, 1924, in Eccles, West Virginia to the late Charles and Flora (McGinnes) Lakey.

He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Reeves during WWII in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. Charles loved to hunt and his passion was spending time with friends fishing on Lake Erie. He was a member of the NRA and was an original member of the Springfield Township Fire Department.

Surviving are two sons, Gary W. Lakey of Mansfield, Ohio, and James D. (Brenda) Lakey of Perrysville, Ohio; granddaughter, Jenna G. Oberto of Pensacola, Florida; three step grandchildren, along with their spouses, and six step great-grandchildren, all of Mansfield; and a brother, Baxter Lakey of Castleberry, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 31 years, Shirley Lee Robinson Lakey; In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Lakey; his companion of 30 years, Pauline Shrader; three sisters, Phurby, Burnis and June; and two brothers, Woody and Carl.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2015, in the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to MedCentral Hospice.
