MANSFIELD, Ohio – Mechanics Bank is pleased to announce John M. Gurney and Paula M. Clagg have been awarded the James A. Courtney Award. The Award is presented to Mechanics employees who best exemplify the company’s mission – “to pursue excellence in every possible way to enrich the lives of the people and the communities we serve.” The award is presented on a peer nomination basis.

John Gurney began his career at Mechanics in 2009 as a Commercial Loan Officer. He is currently Vice President, Commercial Lender. Gurney is a graduate of Shelby High School, the Ohio School of Banking, and attended the Graduate School of Banking. He and his family reside in Shelby.

Paula Clagg began her career at Mechanics in 1993 in the Proof Department and is currently an Operations Specialist. She is a graduate of Lexington High School and attended Pioneer Career & Technology Center with an emphasis in Business. She resides with her family in Mansfield.

The James A. Courtney Award, named for Mechanics’ former President, is the company’s most prestigious recognition of performance. Prior to his retirement in 2003, Mr. Courtney led the bank through a 15-year period of growth and continued independence. Today, Mechanics Bank is Richland County’s only independent bank with eight convenient locations in Richland County.
