William Bauer, 82, of Mansfield, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, following a courageous four year battle with melanoma.
William was born on August 6, 1932, in Mansfield, to Conrad and Elizabeth Bauer. He was a brick mason for a total 62 years. He began his career with Didicher Construction in 1948, then was a partner with Reliable Masonry and in 1971 started his own business, Bauer Masonry, that later became Bill Bauer and Sons Masonry, leaving a masonry legacy of work not only throughout Northeast and North Central Ohio, but continued to Florida and Texas. William did mason work on numerous businesses and homes in the Mansfield area. William loved to spend time with his family. His favorite pastime was auto racing, and he would spend many weekends at the race track. He was also an avid fisherman. and was a member of the Sons of Herman and the Annie Silver’s Community Center, Bradenton Beach, FL.
William is survived by five children, Cindy Rush and Cheryl Zellner both of Mansfield, Kathy (Rick) Maffett of Spring, TX, and twin sons, William A. Bauer and Michael A. (Jane) Bauer both of Mansfield; seven grandchildren, Missy, Melanie, Ryan, Amber, Derek (Courtney), Matthew, and Jarod; four great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild on the way.
Along with his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife, Joann Bauer; one son-in-law, Kenneth Zellner; one brother, Robert Bauer; three step-brothers, George Rusiska, Jake Rusiska, and Pete Rusiska; and two step-sisters, Liz and Christine.
Calling hours will be from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2015, at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, LTD., 1106 Park Avenue East (St. Rt. 430E), Mansfield. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. with his grandson, Derek Maffett officiating, and his granddaughter-in-law, Courtney Maffett doing the vocals. Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2015 at Mansfield Cemetery.
