Lawrence ”Larry” “Gene” Jenkins, 74, of Galion, died Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Ohio Health MedCentral Hospital, Mansfield, after an unexpected illness.

Larry was born in Ironton, on April 10, 1941 to the late Howard and Margaret (Thomas) Jenkins. He married Barbara Jenkins on December 7, 1967 and she survives him.

Larry served in the U.S. Army. He was a country boy at heart, enjoyed helping those in need. Larry loved NASCAR racing and woodworking. Larry and his brother Ken enjoyed coon hunting, deer hunting and fishing. Larry retired from PPG Industries, Inc. in 1998 as an Inspector. At home he was the “go to man” to solve all your problems. Larry attended the Apostolic Church of God in Crestline.

He is survived by his two daughters: Vicky Nelson, Galion, and Judy Speakman of Ontario; his sons, Guy (Judy) Bundy, Galion, Mark (Michelle) Jenkins, Willard, six granddaughters: Amy, Tammy, Angie, Lea (Derek), Amanda (Dan), Ashley, two grandsons: Dylan, Seth, great-granddaughter Cassandra, and great-grandson Gabrian. He is also survived by a brother Gary (Donna) Jenkins, Galion.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard “Ken” (Joyce) Jenkins, and Matthew Jenkins, and a sister Bonnie Ratliff.

Friends and family may call from 6-8 P.M. Friday, May 15, 2015 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Saturday, May 16 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, with Elder Buddy Walters officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galion. Full military honors will be given at the graveside by the U.S. Army and the Crestline/Galion veterans organizations.
