A live band playing authentic Greek music is accompanied by authentic Greek dances at the Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church Greek Festival.

MANSFIELD, Ohio–The 2015 Greek Festival at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church kicks off Friday for a weekend of food, Greek of course, dancing, and music.

Proceeds from the event is a fundraiser for the church but the event is more than that. It’s a way to connect with the community and share the Greek culture.

“This is the only place in Mansfield to experience the food, the sounds and the sights of Greek heritage and faith,” said Fr. Michael Ellis at last year’s festival. “We don’t outsource our cooking, everything is done here by our ladies and our men and we’re very proud of that. An important part of Greek culture is sitting together and eating together.”

Greek food

Visitors often go home with Greek pastries—you know, like baklava: phyllo dough stacked with honey and nuts.

The festival begins Friday, May 15, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. There is a limited, lunch- only menu from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Friday only. The festival continues Saturday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

The dance performances are tentatively scheduled for Friday at 5:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.; Saturday at 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m; and Sunday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The church has strong roots in both the Greek and Macedonian faith of the local community and church dating back to 1924 and festival-goers can see the church’s beautiful architecture.

Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church is located at 265 West 3rd Street in Mansfield.

Updated: 5K will not be held this year.
