C. Philip Longstreth, 78, of Galion, died Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at his home. He had resided in the area all of his life.
Phil was born in Springfield on November 16, 1936 to the late Murral A. and Lucy A. (Talkington) Longstreth. He married Betty J. Courter on November 29, 1958 and she preceded him in death on June 23, 2000.
Phil was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Galion. He was a graduate of Wittenberg University and an active member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Phil, along with his wife Betty, operated the family business of Longstreth Memorials for over three decades, before turning the reins over to his son Sean. In 1973, he purchased Alexander-Wilbert Vault Co. He was a member of B.P.O. of Elks, Galion Lodge #1191, the American Institute of Commemorative Art, the past president of Monument Builders of North American, member and past secretary of Ohio Monument Builders. In the family tradition, he spent his life helping people remember their life stories in stone. He enjoyed golf and was a proud parent and grandparent.
He is survived by his daughter, Rev. Kristin & Eric Santiago, Heath, his son, Sean & Terri Longstreth, Galion, his grandchildren: Elisa Santiago, Jacob Santiago, Adam Longstreth, Benjamin Longstreth and Paige Longstreth, his brother Leland B. & Jeanne Longstreth, Ft. Myers, FL and his sister Rebecca & John Renock, Galion.
Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303, Portland Way North, Galion, OH, 44833. An Elks Memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, with Pastor Matthew Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galion.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
