MANSFIELD, Ohio – Mid-Ohio Opera, Inc., will perform Franz Schubert’s song cycle of love and loss, “Die Winterreise” at the Mansfield Art Center, May 15 at 8 p.m.
The songs chronicle the journey of a young man who has been rejected by his future bride and her family. He travels out of the city and into the countryside facing madness and self-doubt.
Baritone Thomas Sitzler, of St. Louis Winter Opera, Union Avenue Opera, and Mid-Ohio Opera’s production of “I Pagliacci” last August, will sing the second half. Tenor Joel Vega, Artistic Director, will sing the first half. One of classical music’s masterpieces of story telling, this will be sung in German with translations provided. Film and still pictures by Bryce Millikin will be projected over the singers..
Altered Eats food truck will be at the Art Center starting at 7 p.m. to serve food before the concert. Tickets are $10 general admission, $5 Students/Seniors, with a $35 maximum family charge. Tickets sold at door.
