MANSFIELD, Ohio – The Fun Center Chordsmen announces the appointment of Trevor Garrabrant as the new front line director of the men’s a cappella chorus. He replaces Doug Smeltz who has been the director for the past five years. Smeltz had to step away due to additional Johnny Appleseed District responsibilities as Executive Vice President.
Garrabrant is a graduate of Bowling Green State University with a degree in Music Education. While at BGSU he sang in the men’s chorus and the Varsity Quartet. He is the vocal music teacher at Crestview Middle School and High School and is the assistant marching band director. He is also the assistant coach of the middle school boys track team.
Trevor joined the Fun Center Chordsmen in 2007 and also serves as the Vice President of Music and Performance. He sings lead in the 2008 Novice Champion Quartet Bravada and was the recipient of the chapter’s Barbershopper of the Year in 2009.
He has completed the Chorus Development Workshop Intensive (CDWI) and has attended Harmony University Director’s College for the past three years and needs only one additional “on line” course to become a certified director. Only a small percentage of barbershop chorus directors have been accredited as a “certified director.”
He and his wife Megan along with their two sons, Keaton and Sawyer, reside in the Madison area
The Fun Center Chordsmen is a male a cappella chorus whose members love to sing close barbershop harmony. The chorus has members from Richland and surrounding counties. Guests are always welcome. More information is available at www.funcenterchordsmen.com.
