MANSFIELD, Ohio–It’s “Time to Laugh and Relax.” There’s still time to hear from the authors of “Shut Up About Your Perfect Kid.”
The authors are speaking today at the Mid-Ohio Conference Center beginning at 9:30 a.m. and Saturday they will hold another session from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday’s topic is “No More Pencils, No More Books, No More Parents and Teacher Dirty Looks.”
Sponored by State Support Team 7, the talks are free.
On a perfection-preoccupied planet, sisters Gina Gallagher and Patricia Terrasi openly speak about the frustrations, stigmas, joys, and challenges they face as parents of children with disabilities (one with Asperger’s syndrome, the other with bipolar disorder).
Today, more than ever, our society is obsessed with achievement and perfection. This is especially true when it comes to our children. It seems you can’t go anywhere without hearing about how someone’s child scored the winning goal or reading a bumper sticker that says, “My honor student loves me.” So what’s a parent of a child who’s not a star athlete or Rhodes scholar to do?
The authors have some ideas.
There is limited seating. To sign up call Kellee Wisenbarger at 419-747-4808.
The Mid-Ohio Conference Center is located at 890 W. Fourth St., Mansfield.
