“There are no strangers here; only friends you haven’t met yet.” This statement was the way Jim Hoffman lived his life. He truly enjoyed the laughter of everyone around him, doing anything to lift the spirit of others. Jim was a very compassionate loving husband and father, who always made his family the center of his world.
James “Jim” E. Hoffman passed away Friday morning, April 17, 2015 in Ohio Health Medcentral Hospital surrounded by his family. He was 70 years old.
He was born October 28, 1944 at home in Pomeroy, Ohio to parents Earl and Alberta (Caruthers) Hoffman. After he graduated from Bellville High School with the class of 1962, he married his high school sweet heart and love of his life, Joyce Pusey. They spent 52 wonderful years together. Jim and Joyce were married in the church they still attend to this day, Bellville Presbyterian Church.
In 1964 Jim started working for the Tappan Company and was promoted to manager of the Tappan print shop in 1987. He then went on to retire after 46 years in 2010.
In his spare time, he took pleasure in hunting, fishing, and truly appreciated being outdoors or in the woods. Every winter Jim would cut wood for families that needed it to heat their homes at no cost. Jim also valued the crisp writing of a new pen; he enjoyed collecting them in all sorts of fashions. But above all, Jim cherished his family and worked extremely hard to provide for them.
He is survived by his loving wife Joyce Hoffman of Butler; sons Rob Hoffman and Chris (Jake) Hoffman; grandsons Colton, Griffin, Chris Jr., and Vlad Hoffman; mother Alberta Hoffman; brother Dick (Sharon) Hoffman; sister Rosie (Dave) Craven; nieces and nephews Terrance Butler, Jamie (Mark) Pellegrino, Jeff Robinson, Rich (Helynn) Hoffman, Tracey Sheriff, Kurt (Donelda) Hoffman, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his father Earl Hoffman, sister Patricia Hoffman, and niece Kim Butler.
His family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2015 in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, 81 Mill Road. A funeral service honoring his life will be held at the Bellville Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2015 with The Rev. Karin Wright officiating. A private burial will follow.
Contributions in his memory to Bellville Presbyterian Church may be made at the funeral home.
