MANSFIELD, Ohio – Mansfield will soon benefit from one of Columbia Gas of Ohio’s natural gas line replacement projects.

Over 7,600 feet of natural gas lines will be replaced as Columbia replaces bare steel and cast iron pipe with specially-designed plastic pipes that will serve customers for many years to come. Columbia anticipates completing the project within three months.

The project will include portions of Glessner Avenue, Ohio Street, Mendota Street, Blanche Street, Grover Street, Lexington Avenue, Wilmar Avenue, Sturges Avenue and Maple Place. This work will be done at no additional cost to the customer.

Customers within the project area have been notified via letter and invited to a community meeting to discuss the project on Tuesdat, April 21 at 6 p.m. in the Community Room of the Mansfield/Richland County Main Library on 43 West Third Street in Mansfield.

At this time, customers will have the opportunity to ask specific questions of Columbia Gas employees.

In the near future, customers on these streets will notice preliminary construction work in the area, such as the marking of right of way and existing utilities, and the inspection of sewer lines. Next, Columbia Gas employees and contractors will install a new main line followed by new service lines to serve homes and businesses.

If a home or business has a natural gas meter located inside, it will be moved to a safe, convenient location outside. Finally, Columbia Gas will restore all property to the same or better condition, including streets, sidewalks, lawns and driveways.

This work will require a short interruption of service. Columbia Gas will make personal contact

with customers prior to shutting off service and to schedule re-light appointments. All Columbia Gas

employees and contractors carry identification cards bearing their name and photograph, and will be

This project is part of Columbia’s investment of over $2 billion over 25 years to improve its 19,000 mile underground natural gas line system.
