Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation

GALION, Ohio – The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) has recognized five area employers for keeping their employees safe on the job. The employers received BWC’s Special Award for Safety during the annual awards ceremony of the Galion Safety Council, one of more than 80 across the state that serve as partners in BWC’s efforts to educate employers and workers about the importance of workplace safety.

The award recognizes businesses that have gone at least 500,000 hours and at least six months without an injury resulting in a day or more away from work.

“I applaud these employers for their achievement, and for understanding that making safety a priority is one of the most important steps they can take to keep their employees healthy and productive, and their workers’ compensation costs down,” said BWC Administrator/CEO Steve Buehrer. “Workplace injury claims in Ohio are down by half over the last ten years in part because of attentive employers that put safety first by utilizing resources like safety councils and using the knowledge they gain to instill safety at their workplaces.”

Safety councils are organized by local business organizations to inform participants of new safety standards and regulations, products and services, and provide a thorough knowledge of topics, including occupational safety and health, workers’ compensation and risk management education. Safety councils annually honor members with strong safety records.

Galion area employers recognized for hours worked without an injury include:

Buckeye Pumps Inc. – 674,858 hours worked

Covert Manufacturing, Inc. – 1,100,683 hours worked

Galion Community Hospital – 581,053 hours worked

Galion Schools – 640,537 hours worked

Lifetouch Church Directories – 584,938 hours worked

In addition to the Special Award for Safety, other awards such as the Group Award for Safety, the 100 percent Award and the Achievement Award were also given to various local businesses.
