Dorothy E. Schnitzer Lewis

Dorothy E. Schnitzer Lewis, 96, of Mansfield passed away April 10, 2015 at Mifflin Care Center.

Dorothy was born August 24, 1918 in Ashland to Leo and Cleopha Hamel Schnitzer. She was a 1937 graduate of Mansfield Senior High and later graduated from Mansfield Business College. Dorothy, along with her husband ran the Lewis Motel on Route 42 for 12 years and later they owned and operated the Lake Timberland Campground in Bellville. Dorothy was a life-long member of St. Mary of the Snows Catholic Church and the Rosary Altar Society.

Survivors include her daughters Sharon Bauer, Janet Deter both of Mansfield; son Maurice “Butch” (Karen) Lewis of Bellville; grandchildren Todd Bauer of Mansfield, Wendy (Rick) Tong of Willmington, Eric (Lesa) Deter of Ashland, Matt (Michelle) Deter of Ashland, Nathan Deter of Mansfield, Susan Schafer of Ontario, Jeff Lewis of Ashland, Sarah (PJ) Marzetti of Mansfield; great-grandchildren Michael, Andrea, Ethan, Corbin, Ben, Aaron, Christopher, Madisyn, Mikey, Matthew, Morgan; great-great-grandson Vynce; sister Shirley Schumer of Lexington; sister-in-law Helen Schnitzer of Florida; brother-in-law Ralph Curtis of Mansfield; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Maurice Lewis Sr. in 1999; brothers Richard, Robert and Donald Schnitzer; sisters Geraldine Butler and Beatrice Curtis; grandson Heath Deter.

Friends may call at Herlihy-Chambers Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West, on Monday from 5-7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary of the Snows Catholic Church with Rev. Gregory Hite officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of the Snows Catholic Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
