John F. Heitzman

John F. Heitzman, 74, of Galion, died Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Galion Community Hospital, Galion, after an apparent heart attack while at home. 

John was born in Galion on May 23, 1940. His mother, Maebelle (Rowe) Heitzman died giving birth to John. He was raised by his father, the late Frederick Heitzman, and Theresa (Shier) Heitzman. He married Mary Ann Vaughn on July 6, 1961 and she survives him.

John managed Galion Ambulance Service for many years before he went on to manage a retail store before retiring. A member of the Galion Elks Lodge #1191, he also served over 30 years on the Galion Chapter of the American Red Cross. John was also an active member of the American Heart Association.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, Tee and John Carter of Lexington, Fred Heitzman of Crestline, Bill and Susan Heitzman of Crestline, and Amy and Brent Nardo of Mansfield; three granddaughters, Valerie, Colleen, and Amy Carter; his two sisters, Janet Ruth of Jonesborough, TN, and Nancy and Jim Reid of Galion; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Sue Vaughn of Fredericktown; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Jim Moneysmith; brother-in-law, Bob Ruth; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Wanda Vaughn. 

Friends may call Monday, April 13, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way N., Galion. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, with Rev. Darrin Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galion.
