John Dorion

John Dorion, 80, of Mansfield passed away at home Friday morning, April 10, 2015 surrounded by his loving and devoted family who remained at his side day and night and are thankful for the beautiful experience he created for them.

John was born May 2, 1934 in Cleveland to Leo Dorion and Florence Hawk (both deceased). John went to the 8th grade level in school and then did a variety of jobs until he achieved his GED. He then graduated from North Central Technical College.

He worked as an insurance adjuster for Western Reserve Lightening Rod and Lumberman’s/Prudential. Later he worked for various departments for Richland County and the City of Mansfield.

November 6, 1970 he married the love of his life Janet “Jan” (Reed) Dorion. Fighting a courageous battle with dementia for 6-8 years, John was a very strong willed and loving man that would do anything for his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Jan Dorion of Mansfield; daughter Annette (Troy) Hurrell of Perrysville; son Brian (Randi) Dorion of Butler, and daughter Karen Sigler of Mansfield; nine grandchildren Levi Sigler, Sonya Dorion, Jason Sigler, Jonathan Hurrell, Andrew Sigler, Sharee Ferguson, Tiffany Hurrell, Savannah Dorion, and Devin Dorion; eleven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sisters Luana (LeRoy) King of Chelsea, Michigan, Marie (Dwayne) Washer of Ontario, Martha (Larry) Lehman of Howard, Janet (Barb) Hawk of Fruita, Colorado, and Carol (Paul) Hinzman of Fredericktown; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, several cousins and family members that were very special to him over the years.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his stepfather Russell Hawk; father-in-law and mother-in-law Chester and Goldie Reed.

The family will receive friends, Monday April 13, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. Pastor Doug Pretorius will officiate and burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to Hospice of North Central Ohio may be made at the funeral home.
