Mary K. Carver Cordrey, 91, Galion, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Signature Healthcare, Galion.
Mary was born in Mansfield on September 2, 1923 to the late Amzy R. and Margaret (Ross) Bird. She married Carl R. Cordrey Sr. on February 25, 1978 and he preceded her in death November 18, 1993.
Mary graduated in 1942 from Madison High School, Mansfield. She retired in 1966 from Geauga Plastics, Crestline. She was a Practical Nurse in both Mansfield and Galion and she worked at several rest homes. Mary was a member of the Moose Lodge #303, Galion, the VFW Post 79, Galion, the Army-Navy Garrison 987, the American Legion Post 243, Galion and the Amvets Post 1979, Galion. Mary was very supportive in many ways to all the Clubs she was associated with. Mary enjoyed helping raise her grandchildren. She loved fishing, especially with her sister Marge. The sisters would also go gambling together and played the slot machines. Mary had a 1973 metallic blue Chevy Caprice that she would drive dignitaries in all the local parades.
She is survived by her two daughters Sandra Carver, Bell Buckle, TN and Gloria Skidmore, Bloomville, her daughter-in-law Jean Carver, Galion, her nine step-children, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son Dennis E. Carver and her daughter Starlette Carver Britt. Mary was the last surviving of her siblings. Her brother Clarence Bird and five sisters: Bertha Clear, Marjorie McClain Kauffman, Evelyn Donough, Margaret Conners and Helen Brown all preceded her in death.
