Pauline Faye Conaway, 90, of Mansfield, lost her 14 year battle with Alzheimer’s on March 19, 2015.
Born July 16, 1924 in Bellaire, Ohio, she was the daughter of Herbert and Lucy (Childers) Rankin. Pauline attended Bellaire High School and following graduation, married the love of her life, Earl Conaway on August 8, 1942. The two traveled together as he was serving in the military. Pauline was a member of a group of wives that did whatever they could to help during wartime, whether it be cooking, cleaning, or doing whatever was needed. When her husband was sent to Germany, Pauline moved home. In 1944, Pauline and Earl started their family. She stayed home with her children until they were grown and then went to work for O’Neals in the cosmetic department. She started at their downtown Mansfield store and later moved to the mall location.
In her free time, Pauline loved to travel with her husband. Together, they drove to 49 states. She and her husband had a trailer at Seneca Lake Resorts, where together, they enjoyed doing small projects around their property. Every winter, they went to Treasure Island, FL, where Pauline loved to sunbathe and collect seashells. She also enjoyed taking walks, collecting lighthouses, line dancing, and cooking for her family, as she was best known for her butterscotch pie! Pauline loved animals, especially Pomeranian dogs, and enjoyed nature very much, having numerous bird feeders at her home.
A sweet woman who was kind to everyone, she always had a smile on her face. Pauline was very supportive when it came to her children, always proud of their accomplishments. She touched their lives and they are so proud to have had her as a mom.
Surviving are her daughter, Diane (Bob) Glasener of Lucas; sons, Melvin (Kay) Conaway of Ashland, Terry Conaway of Shelby, and Ronald (Margo) Conaway of Cincinnati; grandchildren, Chad McGinty, Terry Conard, Ronald Conaway, Jr., Jonathan Conaway, Alicia Blackledge, Ryan Glasener, Larry Fowler, and Michael Fowler; and numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Also surviving are her brother-in-law, Bob Conaway; and sisters-in-law, Connie Conaway and Mary Jane Rankin.
Along with her parents, Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Conaway, who died in 2011; sister, Chloris Clegg; and brother, Lloyd Rankin.
