Rosemary Massa Cashell passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, in Mansfield, Ohio. Born on October 9, 1925 to Joseph and Marie (Becker) Massa, Rosemary was a life-long resident of Mansfield and St. Peter’s Parish. She married George R. Cashell on April 17, 1948.
Rosemary was a caregiver throughout her life and could always be counted on to provide help to family, friends, and neighbors. She opened her home to the many strays her children brought home (animals and friends) even though she knew she would eventually be their care provider (only the animals!). There was always room in her heart for one more.
Rosemary encouraged her children through their many activities, and attended many, many scout meetings and swim meets. After her children were grown and all the animals were in heaven, she finally took time for herself and studied art; her watercolors are proudly displayed in the homes of family and friends. She also volunteered for St. Peter’s Church and Catholic Social Services.
Rosemary is survived by her husband, children, Steve (Dorothy), Jim (Craig), Carol (Chuck Bookwalter), and Peg (David Stevens); sister, Carol Zimmerman; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Tim and John; and brother, Joseph Massa.
The family would like to thank her friends and the staff at MedCentral Hospice, Mansfield Memorial Homes, and Wedgewood Estates. We will all miss her wit and the twinkling tease in her eyes.
Friends may call Thursday, March 21, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. at the Diamond St. Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 22, 2015 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 104 W. 1st St., Mansfield, conducted by Father Jeremy Miller. Burial will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to MedCentral Hospice or the Monsignor Edward C. Dunn Foundation for Education.
