Jack C. Nothacker, age 82, resident of Ontario died Sunday morning March 15, 2015 at the Country Meadows Care Center in Belleville.
Born October 9, 1932 in Shelby to Charles and Adelaide (Sherman) Nothacker, he had been a Shelby area resident the majority of his life moving to Ontario in 2007.
Jack was a 1950 graduate of Shelby High School, where he played basketball and was a lineman and kicker for the Shelby Whippets football 1949-50 NOL League championship team. He earned the nickname “Jack the Toe Nothacker” for his kicking accuracy. He was a veteran of the U.S Navy serving during the Korea conflict aboard the U.S.S. Ponchatoula.
He was formerly employed with Wilkins Air Force Depot, AMF Co. and was plant manager for Chrysler Marine Products in Shelby. He then took employment as a foreman with Therm-O-Disc, Inc. retiring in 1994. Jack also was owner/operator of the Fiberglas Recon Center in Shelby.
Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, bowling and sports. He had volunteered his time coaching little league and being a 4-H advisor.
He is survived by his wife Betty (Lewis) Nothacker, whom he married October 14, 1965; one son, Russ (Teresa) Nothacker of Shelby; three daughters, Karen (Tim) Scott of Bucyrus, Kathy (Richard) Burton of Lima, and Kim (Keith) Graham of Zionsville, IN; 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; brother, James Nothacker of Traverse City, MI. and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2015 at the Barkdull Funeral Home and Crematory in Shelby. Pastor Ray LaSalle will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby.
