Dennis M. Culler went to be with the Lord Monday, March 16, 2015 in his Lexington home surrounded by family. He was 69.
He was born July 3, 1945 in Mansfield to parents Fred T. & Helen (Hudson) Culler. After he was graduated from Lucas High School, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics from The Ohio State University. Dennis proudly served his country as a member of the US Army and earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal before his honorable discharge as a First Lieutenant.
While working for the Ohio Department of Transportation, a beautiful young lady named Victoria caught his eye and the pair soon married on October 6, 1973. Together they purchased a farm in Lexington where Dennis kept bees, grew strawberries and harvested grain. More than a job, farming was also his hobby: he really enjoyed bailing hay, splitting firewood, and just being outdoors. For the past 25 years he also worked for the United States Postal Service, first as a rural carrier and later as a mail handler both locally and in Columbus.
His family and friends will remember his contagious smile more than anything—his positive attitude was infectious. In spare time, Dennis cheered for the Cleveland Browns and Indians.
Dennis was a member of Resurrection Parish in Lexington.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Victoria Culler of Lexington; his three children: Rev. Eric Culler of New Washington, Michael & Mariko Culler of Hawai’i, and Ashley & Brandon Ellis (with a grandson on the way) of Sidney; two brothers Noel & Judy Culler and Darryl Culler; as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents.
His family will receive friends Friday, March 20, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, and will begin with a vigil service at 1:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday at 11 a.m. in Resurrection Parish, 2600 Lexington Avenue, celebrated by the Very Reverend Father Nelson Beaver and Dennis’ son the Reverend Eric Culler and burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Lucas with military honors performed by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
Contributions in his memory to Ohio Health MedCentral Hospice or to Catholic Charities may be made at the services.
