Martha E. “Marty” (Kanz) Kleman, age 74, resident of Shelby, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015 in Crestwood Care Center.
Born April 27, 1940 in Mansfield, Ohio to William and Anna (Hetler) Kanz, she had been a Shelby resident since 1971. She attended St. Mary’s School in Mansfield and in 8th grade was crowned “May Queen”. A 1958 graduate of Madison High School, she was active in the Pep and Glee Clubs and was crowned “Track Queen” her senior year.
Marty retired from Empire Detroit Steel as the assistant traffic superintendent after 27 years of service. A member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, she was active in the Altar & Rosary Society. Marty loved dancing and traveling with her husband and their special friends. She enjoyed her flower garden, feeding the birds and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by husband, John Kleman, whom she married May 4, 1984; two daughters, Colleen Rose Jarrell of San Diego, CA and Heather Rose (Ron Wise) of Mansfield; one son, Patrick Rose of Mansfield; three step-sons, Scott (Kathy) Kleman of Mansfield, Jeff (Meg) Kleman of Cincinnati and Steven (Linda) Kleman of Pittsburgh, PA; two step-daughters, Debrah (Dino) D’Ettorre of Mansfield and Pam Kleman (Ron Hummel) of Shelby; six grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren; her sister, Caroline Thompson of Mansfield, and her brother David (Ann) Kanz of Toledo; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim (Sue) Kleman of Shelby, Joanne Kleman of Willard, Shirley Kanz and Connie Kanz, both of Mansfield; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Shawn A. Rose; one sister, Frances (Dave) Fortney, six brothers, Rich (Elva) Kanz, Leo (Hazel) Kanz, Bill Kanz, Rob (Alice) Kanz, Al (Sandy) Kanz, and Ron Kanz; and brother-in-law, Bud Thompson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Father James Sanford will officiate with interment in Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery.
