Loren Paul Peters peacefully passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2015 in Ohio Health MedCentral Mansfield Hospital surrounded by his family. He was 83.
He was born June 20, 1931 in Mansfield to parents Basil & Sadie Bell (Nelson) Peters and attended Bellville High School. When Pete was just a teenager a young lady named Madge White caught his eye and the pair soon married on January 20, 1951.
Pete worked for more than 26 years at the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield and retired from there as Sergeant, but even in retirement he kept busy with his own business: Pete’s Signs. He painted everything from large signs to sides of trucks and his natural artistic ability spilled over into all sorts of mediums: chalk, oil, pencil, paint, and even woodworking. Some for hobby and some for clients, Pete enjoyed using his creativity to form unique pieces.
He was fascinated with aircraft and everything to do with flying and built a large airplane for use in parades. Pete also collected all sorts of items emblazoned with eagles. But above all he cherished time spent with family and especially his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Pete was a longtime faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bellville, served as Trustee of the Bellville-Jefferson Township Historical Society and was also a member of EAA 148 and the Mansfield Airport.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Madge Peters of Lexington; three children: Lauren Berry of Bellville, David Peters of Bellville, and Michael & Tracy Peters of Lakeville; three grandsons: Todd & Jessicca Berry, Trent Peters, and Zachery Peters; four great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by five siblings: Esther, Charles, Blaine, Nelson, and Edith, and a grandson Colt Shoup.
His family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 in Snyder Funeral Home, 2553 Lexington Ave, where his funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday and friends are invited to call the hour prior. Pastor Douglas Pretorius will officiate and burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park near Lexington.
Contributions in his memory to the Washington Township Rescue Squad or St. Paul Lutheran may be made at the funeral home.
