LUCAS, Ohio – All are invited to shake off cabin fever and visit Malabar Farm State Park for their annual Maple Festival. The Maple Festival runs two consecutive weekends – March 7 and 8 and March 14 and 15 from noon to 4 p.m. each day.
Demonstrations of sugar making by early Native Americans, pioneers and modern techniques will be ongoing throughout the festival. The Central Ohio Draft Horse Association will be on hand to transport visitors to and from the sugar camp area starting at the Working Farm area.
Malabar Farm Volunteers will be running a lunch concession inside the Pugh Cabin and bluegrass music will entertain visitors while there. The Richland County Historical Society will be giving demonstrations on pioneer living in the Pugh Bell House. The lower Pugh cabin will be the site of the “Everything Maple” sales area, and will be selling everything from maple cotton candy to maple beef jerky and of course 100 percent pure maple syrup.
The Malabar Big House, home of Pulitzer Prize novelist and conservationist, Louis Bromfield, will be open for ongoing tours from noon to 4 p.m. each day of the festival. There is a charge for touring the home. with adults age 19-54 paying $4, seniors over age 55 paying $3.60, and Children age 6-18 paying $2, Children age 5 and under are free.
