The Mansfield Police Major Crimes Unit has arrested Brenda J. Pratt on an indictment by the Richland County Grand Jury for Murder.
On Jan. 21, the Mansfield Police were called by Akron Children’s Hospital and advised they were treating a 10-week-old baby girl for significant injuries. An investigation was started by the Major Crimes Unit and Children Services and Brenda Pratt was identified as the caregiver who was in charge of caring for the baby girl.
On Feb. 3, the 12-week-old baby girl died. The investigation continued and during consultation with the Richland County Prosecutors Office the case was presented to the Richland County Grand Jury where Pratt was indicted.
“This is a very sad case in the face of the other child victims in recent weeks.” stated Lt Rob Skropits. “People should be aware that it is easier to set a child down and walk away if the stress is too great.”
