Eugene W. Shoemaker, 92, of Ontario, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 26, 2015.

Eugene was born on September 8, 1922, in Nicholas Co., WV to Wilbur and Eva (Beckner) Shoemaker. He served in the Army during WWII and was a POW. He was a member of the VFW in Perrysville and the American Legion #0016. Eugene enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was a member of Cornerstone Freewill Baptist and was very active in the church.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Cora; two daughters, Sue (George) Noblet and Connie (Harry) Trent, both of Mansfield; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; one brother, James Shoemaker of Mansfield; and two sisters, Sarah Mauritz of Mansfield and Faye Perry of Shelby.

Along with his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther (Carroll) Shoemaker; two sons, Larry Shoemaker and Jerry Shoemaker; and seven brothers, Lonnie, Robert, Archie, Russell, Elza, Billy, and Teddy Shoemaker.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church, 1602 Walker Lake Road, Ontario, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2015 at the church, with Pastor John Johnson and Pastor Freddy Dutton officiating. Military honors will be performed by Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.

A special “Thank You” to all the caregivers that made it possible to keep him at home; Lisa and Kaylynn Stone, Darla Noblet, Emily Burger, Justin and Sarah Hayes, Laila Blackwell, his two son-in-laws, George Noblet and Harry Trent and also the support of special friends, Toby and Janey Matney.
