GALION, Ohio – Galion High School senior Addison Zeisler has been named a Commended Student in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the high school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, has been presented by Galion High School Principal Ron Williams to this scholastically talented senior.

In addition to an outstanding academic career, Zeisler has been actively involved in extra-curricular activities. During her high school career, Addison has been a member of the varsity volleyball and varsity track teams, served as vice president of National Honor Society, selected as class president all four years of high school and has been a member student council, Teen Green and Key Club.

“Receiving this recognition was a way for me to know that my hard work paid off,” Zeisler said. “Even if I wasn’t the top of the top, I have done enough to get ahead of many students my age.”

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2015 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2015 competition by taking the 2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

“After high school, I plan on pursuing a degree that will help me focus on pre-medicine,” Zeisler said. “My top three college choices are Miami University, University of Notre Dame and Princeton.”

Community service has also been a focus of Addison’s high school career. Her involvement in different organizations at Galion High School has offered her the opportunity to help the community through the Toys for Tots and Adopt a Family program.

“I want everyone to know that everything I’ve accomplished I couldn’t have done without my community, and I really value growing up in a small town and all the connections I’ve made and the support I’ve received,” Zeisler said. “I’m not one of those kids that is ready to get out and leave forever. I intend on coming back, if not to Galion, to a small town and giving back to the community.”

“On behalf of the Board of Education and entire Galion City School District, I want to congratulate Addison for earning the recognition of Commended Student in the National Merit Scholarship Program,” Superintendent Mark Stefanik said. “She is a model student at Galion High School, and this recognition shows that great things can happen for Galion students who dedicate themselves to their family, their school and the Galion community.”
