MANSFIELD, Ohio — On Sunday, Jan. 18, the Renaissance will present “Start-A-Story”, the second of three concerts in its 2014-2015 Teddy Bear concert series.
Renaissance Artistic Director Michael Thomas will help concertgoers compose a story for actors Scott Schag and Madeline Beer. Kids will learn to create and write their own stories through this inventive and hilarious program that was developed specifically for the Renaissance Theatre’s Education Department. Through improvisation and easy-to-follow instructions, young audiences will create a wholly original story that incorporates all the elements of great storytelling: characters, place, problem and solution. They’ll even choose the music that will help tell their story.
By the end of the performance, the young storytellers will have all the tools they need to go home and create and act out their own stories. Children will also get to select the music for the story, performed by the Mansfield Symphony brass trio, featuring Ken Holzworth on trumpet, Scott Strohm on French horn, and Mike Grady on trombone.
Part of the Graham Automall 2014-2015 Renaissance Season and the Mechanics Bank Educational Series, the concert begins at 2 p.m.; doors open at 1:30 p.m. Thanks to the generosity of the Women’s Guild of the Mansfield Symphony, tickets for all Teddy Bear concerts can be purchased for a flat fee of $10 each at the Renaissance Box Office, 419-522-2726.
Inspired by the Kennedy Center’s family programming, the Ren Teddy Bear concerts are set up to allow children an up-close experience with symphonic instruments, live acting, and basic musical concepts. To provide the most engaging performance possible, the Teddy Bear series can accommodate only 100 concert-goers and their very favorite teddy bears, so these onstage seats fill quickly—grab Teddy and pick out your seats at mansfieldtickets.com! (Teddy Bears enjoy free admission for this series only).
