MIFFLIN TOWNSHIP — No life-threatening injuries were reported Monday morning during a crash that involved two tractor-trailer rigs on I-71 in northern Ashland County, according to the Ashland Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers responded at approximately 7:48 a.m. to the crash near milepost 180.
Investigators said a disabled 2022 International semi-tractor trailer was parked on the east shoulder of I-71 northbound when a northbound 2016 Kenworth T680 traveled onto the shoulder and struck the left rear of the International’s trailer.

Both trucks came to rest along the east side of the interstate.
The Kenworth and its trailer caught fire and were destroyed.
The driver of the International, Shawn E. Elson, 55, of Dayton, was transported by EMS to an Ashland hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Kenworth, Steven Earl Dyer, 54, of Liberty Township, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected factors. The crash remains under investigation, according to troopers.
