Harold L. Konz, 94, of Mansfield, died January 3, 2015. Born September 7, 1920 in Toledo, he was the son of Alfred J. and Ruth E. (Wagner) Konz. Harold graduated from Waite High School, where he played tuba in the marching band. He went on to graduate from Heidleburg College then attended Eden Seminary in St. Louis, where he achieved his Bachelor of Divinity. After he was ordained, Harold served several churches throughout Ohio and Michigan, with his most recent church being St. John’s United Church of Christ in Mansfield. He retired from an Evangelical Reform nursing home where he served as chaplain. A proud Navy veteran, Harold served as lieutenant and chaplain.
In his free time, Harold enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping with his family, and playing cards. He also liked watching Ohio State football, golf, tennis, and basketball. Most of all, he loved family gatherings where he could be with his children and grandchildren and was always the last to leave a party.
Surviving are his children, Gwen (Donald) Walter, Alan “Rich” (Sue) Konz, and Gail O’Leary; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Betty Harbert.
Along with his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn V. Konz, who died October 26, 2012; six siblings; and granddaughter, Brenda Walter.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield, conducted by Pastor Jared Ruark. Family and friends are invited to visit for one hour prior to the service, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
