Wilson J. “Buck” Currence

Wilson J. “Buck” Currence, age 87, of Johnsville, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014 in his home surrounded by family.

He was born August 4, 1927 to Clarence and Nellie (Boone) Currence. Buck retired after 32 years as a fork lift operator with General Motors, but also worked for the former Mansfield Tire and Rubber and White Westinghouse.

He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. Buck spent many hours in the woods deer hunting in the fall and morel mushroom hunting in the spring. He looked forward to his yearly hunting trip to West Virginia to deer hunt. Buck had the ability to turn any breed of dog into an excellent hunting companion. Handy, Buck was blessed with working hands, capable of fixing many things.

Though stubborn at times, Buck was a loyal father and loving grandfather. He simply loved his family.

Buck is survived by four daughters Laverne and Keith Bunker of Johnsville, Lynda and Michael Ricker of Galion, Sally J. Kegley, and Betty Lewis both of Crestline; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren, and his brother Joe Currence of Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Nellie Currence, his loving wife of 56 years Luella R. Currence, and ten brothers and sisters.

Buck’s family will receive friends Saturday, December 20, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a celebration of Buck’s life will follow at 1 p.m. Celebrant Jerry Wilson will officiate and burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery.
