Marcia Lynn (Petersen) Henderson, age 62, resident of Springfield and former Shelby resident, passed away in her home Wednesday afternoon, December 10, 2014 following several years of failing health.
She was born in Shelby, Ohio on May 27, 1952, the daughter of John E. and Helen M. (Brown) Petersen. Marcia was a 1970 graduate of Greenon High School and joined the U.S. Navy in 1980. She served in the Navy until her health forced her retirement in 1989. Marcia loved pictures and when she was feeling well enough, she was on Facebook trying to stay in touch with her family and friends.
She is survived by her mother, Helen Petersen of Fairborn; husband of 31 years, Jerome Henderson; daughter, Tammy LeMaster; granddaughter, Caitlin; and new great grandson, Messiah. Also surviving are sisters, Emma Booth of Urbana, Jennie (Emmett) LeMaster of Fairborn, Lois (Dana) Gall of Englewood, Florida, and Kimberly (Mike) Watson of South Charleston; sister-in-law, Earnestine Howard of Chicago; nieces and nephews, Angela (Tim) Knowles of Urbana, Jim (Lori) Downard of Athens, Charles H. Gall III of Athens, and Brie (Tyler) Maynard of Cherry Point, North Carolina; and many great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father on February 22, 2004 and a nephew, George Booth on August 29, 2014.
Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home Thursday, December 18, 2014 from 11 to 1 p.m. with funeral services being conducted at 1 p.m. Reverend Steven L. Schag, of the Calvary Baptist Church, will officiate with military honors provided by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven, Ohio.
