David E. Groh, 73, of Mansfield, died Thursday, December 4, 2014 surrounded by his family at OhioHealth MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital. He had been seriously ill the past month.
Born April 4, 1941, he was the son of Eugene R. and Arletta B. (Curren) Groh. He married Georgetta M. Singer on June 12, 1982 and she survives him.
Dave retired from PPG Industries, Crestline, in 2006 after 36 years of service. He has lived in Mansfield since 1981, having moved from Crestline. He was a social member of the Amvets Post # 96, Ashland, the Crestline Frat. Order of Eagles, the Crestline V.F.W. Post #2920, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #341, Mansfield and the Mansfield Owls Club #1152.
David loved Corvettes and has owned one most of his adult life, starting in the early 1960’s. His interest in cars began when he worked as a teenager at his Uncle Gail Groh’s Oldsmobile dealership in Crestline. He loved to tinker and work with things. He was a huge NASCAR and Ohio State Buckeye fan. David’s great love was his Shih Tzu “Precious”. He would often show you a photo of Precious before he did his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing cards at home and at the clubs.
He is survived by his three children, Barbara and Mace McCullough of Galion, Cathy Finnegan of Shelby, and John and Mickey Groh of Germany; his two stepsons, Kevin Brumfield of Mansfield, and Paul and Allie Evans of Fredericktown; eight grandchildren, Tony and Chrystal Seymour, Ryan Brumfield, Joshua Brumfield and his fiancé Andrea Algire, Hunter Finnegan, Matthew Evans, Michael and Felicia Evans, Brandie Evans, and Colin McCullough; and his great-granddaughter, Skylar Brumfield. He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Susan Groh.
Friends may call Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 223 W. Main Street, Crestline, OH, 44827. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Crestline, with Pastor Walt Keib officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Crestline.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Kidney Foundation in care of the funeral home.
