Families are encouraged to “Come Home to Galion” on Saturday, Dec. 6 in celebration of the sixth annual Come Home to Galion event.

The event will be held from 1-5 p.m. at the Uptowne Square.

“It’s basically an opportunity for a community Christmas celebration,” described Paul Walter, event chairman.

Area churches will prepare comfort food to be offered at the square, the Galion Public Library will provide entertainment throughout the afternoon, and the Galion Historical Society will offer free tours of Brownella Cottage and the Gill House. There will also be ice carvers, carriage rides, and an appearance by Santa Claus.

A Christmas parade will commence at 4 p.m., which will begin at Heise Park and continue through uptowne. The event will culminate with the lighting of the community Christmas tree at 4:45 p.m. Winners of Galion Primary School’s coloring contest will be able to partake in the lighting of the Christmas tree, which is donated by the city utility department.

Walter said, “You can leave your wallet at home and come and enjoy the afternoon and be part of all the festivities.” Donations will be accepted, and all of the proceeds will be distributed to city churches.

This event is coordinated by a community group that includes representatives from the Galion-Crestline Area Chamber of Commerce, the Galion Public Library, the Galion Historical Society, the Galion Alumni Band, and the Galion Area Ministerial Association.

Walter added, “We’re trying to create an opportunity for families to get together and celebrate all of the good things that are part of living in a little city like we have.”
