Santa visits with children at a previous Christmas Bazaar. This year's event will be held Dec. 6 and 7.

St. Mary’s Catholic School in Shelby will hold its annual Christmas Bazaar Dec. 6 and 7, featuring food, crafts, and a visit from Santa on Sunday.

The traditional dining favorites will be available, including Swiss steak and cabbage roll dinners served from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, as well as homemade noodles and other homemade treats at the bake shop along with amazing homemade candies. The price of the dinner, including drink and dessert, is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $5 for children.

Many items have been donated for the “Raffle Room,” and the Santa Shop will be stocked with treasures to help little ones check names off of their Christmas shopping list.

The prizes for the Main Ticket Raffle are $1,000, $500, $300, $200 and $100. Raffle tickets are available at the school or via any parishioner for $5 each, or 7 tickets for $35, with the drawing at 5 p.m. on Sunday. No need to be present to win any of the raffle items including the Main Raffle.

Santa will be available on Sunday for children to share their Christmas wishes and to allow for picture opportunities.

A few changes this year:

Saturday, Dec. 6, hours for the bazaar will be from 9 a.m. til noon, with only the bake shop, candy shop and Main Raffle ticket sales. Shredded chicken sandwiches and chips will be available for a free-will donation.

Sunday, Dec. 7, hours for the bazaar will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. New this year will be a Pinterest Craft Room from 1 to 3 p.m. where guests can create a wreath, a ribbon tree, and/or a decoration in a jar for $15 each, or all three for $40.

Also featured will be three crafts geared more toward children, priced at $5 each. These will be available at no charge with the purchase of an adult craft. Sign-up is not necessary, but is requested in order to have sufficient supplies on hand. Interested guests can call 419-342-2626 for more information or to sign up.

The Christmas Bazaar has been an annual St. Mary’s event for over 40 years, originally organized by the Most Pure Heart of Mary Parish Altar and Rosary Society. The Altar and Rosary Society is still an integral part of the event, though the Christmas Bazaar is currently organized by St. Mary’s School staff and School Advisory Board.

The Christmas Bazaar is one of three main parish fundraisers, along with the Parish Fest in September and the Spring Fling in April. The money from the Christmas Bazaar helps to keep tuition for students low.

The school is located at 26 West Street in Shelby. There is no charge for admission to the event.
