A crew from Shelly Smith & Sons Ltd installs the 2014 Christmas tree in downtown Mansfield.

The Richland Carrousel Park welcomed Mansfield’s annual Christmas tree in the city’s downtown for this year’s Christmas season. The 2014 tree was installed today right outside the Carrousel’s doorstep near the intersection of Fourth Street and South Main Street.

“The tree really pulls the city together as a unit – peace, love, the growth of downtown Mansfield. And we are growing. There are three or four new businesses on Fourth Street just opened up and there will be more to come,” said Sharon Bishop co-director of the Richland Carrousel Park.

Bishop said the carrousel park is very honored to have the tree on their front doorstep. “It’s a beautiful, big tree,” she said.

The tree was donated by Mansfield’s City Service Complex and came from their lot. Shelly Smith & Sons Ltd. delivered the 30-foot tree to the beds just outside the carrousel on Friday morning.

Bishop said Mayor Tim Theaker will officially light the tree on Friday, December 5 during the Christmas in the City event hosted by Downtown Mansfield Inc.

Christmas Time in The City starts at 5 p.m. on the same night and features holiday activities including, carriage rides, a petting zoo and time with Santa. Click here for details on the event.
