Ruth Barbour

Ruth Barbour, age 99, resident of Shelby, died Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the Willows of Willard.

Born July 29, 1915 in Oakvale, West Virginia to Andrew and Rhoda (Biggs) Hazelwood she was a Shelby area resident the majority of her life. A 1933 graduate of Shelby High School, she retired in 1975 from the Plymouth Schools as manager of the school cafeteria.

Ruth was a member of the First Christian Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. An avid reader, she enjoyed crocheting and sewing, gardening and genealogy.

Survivors include her children, David (Jean) Barbour of Estero, Florida, Sally (Larry) Vanasdale of Galloway; son-in-law, Kent Knaus of Plymouth; six grandchildren, Gail Knaus Shatkus, Ann Knaus, Andrew Knaus, Edward Vanasdale, Brian Vanasdale, and Amy Barbour, three great grandchildren, Anya, Leah, and Elena Vanasdale; her brother, Lee Hazelwood of Stayton, Oregon, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Russell M. Barbour in 1999; her daughter, Nancy Knaus, granddaughter, Lisa Barbour and two brothers, Russell and John Hazelwood.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Reverend Brad McBee will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery. Calling hours will not be observed. Memorial expressions may be made in Ruth’s memory to the First Christian Church, 81 E. Main St., Shelby, OH 44875
