Commander Daniel L. Tack Jr. was promoted from lieutenant colonel to colonel on Friday, Oct. 31 at Mansfield’s 179th Airlift Wing. As the Mission Support Group (MSG) Commander, Tack commands more 300 personnel who provide mission support to more than 1,200 individuals assigned to the 179th Airlift Wing and RED HORSE units.

Attending the promotion ceremony, held at the 179th Airlift Wing headquarters in Mansfield, were his immediate family including his wife Kristy, three children; Auna, Daniel III and Samara; his parents Daniel and Cheryl Tack, and some extended family.

Col. Tack first thanked his two support teams: the MSG and his family.

“I followed my dad’s footsteps. He served 40 years in the Ohio Army National Guard, and made the rank of colonel. So it’s a family business,” said Col. Tack.

His father, Daniel Tack, also attended the promotion ceremony. “Cheryl and I are very proud. He’s excelled in every area that he’s served in. People will always look up to him as a leader,” he said.

Tack was sworn in by Col. Gary McCue, Commander of the 179th Airlift Wing and was supported by many of the base’s MSG and other personnel and staff.

Colonel Tack was commissioned in 1996. He received his Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE) degree from Toledo University, his Bachelor’s from Ohio Northern University. He graduated from high school at Oak Harbor High School.

Tack started his career in the military first with the Ohio Army National Guard, then in 2001 joined the Ohio Air National Guard. There he served as Commander of the 179th Civil Engineering Squadron, the 200th RED HORSE Squadron Detachment 1 Commander, 200th RED HORSE Squadron Deputy Commander, and now as the 179th Mission Support Group Commander.

According to a news release, Colonel Tack has participated in numerous stateside and overseas deployments, including Operations New Horizons, Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, and Ohio’s State Partnership program with Serbia and Hungary.
