Back to school

Students and their families are preparing to head back to school. As the 2014-2015 school year approaches, local administrators are gearing up for what they hope are successful academic years.

Tim Tarvin, superintendent of Shelby City Schools, said, “We’re really excited and feel that we’ve been riding the waves of success and we want to just keep that going.” He added, “We’ve got great kids and a great community and we’re proud to serve them and we’re going to continue to serve them well.”

He noted that the district has welcomed new staff members, each of whom have been working throughout the summer to prepare for the upcoming year.

Similarly, staff at Mansfield City Schools have been working diligently to get ready for the new school year, noted Superintendent Brian Garverick.

“We’ve gone through passing a double-digit levy, entered fiscal emergency, had numerous staff cuts, closed a school building, and have had to reorganize our district in terms of serving our families, so with that in mind, the administration and support staff have worked hard over the summer to prepare for the upcoming year and prepare for the changes that had to be made as a result of entering into fiscal emergency,” Garverick said.

He continued, stating that although the school has had to “scale down” its operations at Springmill Learning Center, “we have a committee in place working diligently to resurrect the programming out there. We’ve entered into a partnership with OSU-Mansfield that should help us move Springmill forward,” he said, “Student achievement will be at the front of our workload.”
